CASH LAUNDRETTE 

STOCK EXCHANGE CASH LAUNDRETTE

A public intervention by Francis Gomila preformed during documenta 14 in Athens / Kassel, Venice Biennale and Skulptur Projekte Münster.

The artist amassed obsolete bank notes (Greek Drachma, Italian Lira and German Mark, plus other defunct currencies) subjecting the notes to repeated wash cycles in public laundromats (Athens, Venice, Kassel) until the cash turned into a pulp. The event was timed to coincide with the openings of major international art Exhibitions: documebta 14, in Athens / Kassel, Venice biennial and Münster sculpture project. From the pulp the artist fashioned a new sculptural currency: depositing the sculptures in an international bank vault from which the collateral value of the share option is based.

The resulting sculptures were displayed in a public space in Münster  during the Münster skulptue projeckte inviting the public to buy shares in the new sculptural currency.
